listening to music while reading?

i don't mean flipping through a magazine or something.

like if you're reading a novel or studying or anything where you want to absorb the material.

do you feel you lose out by listening to music at the same time or it doesn't matter?

is it bad that i prefer reading with the stereo on? shouldn't the books be entertaining enough on its own?

i listen to music most times i read aswell.
i normally don't really notice the music that much though, but i cannot stand the silence.

and i've had some experiences where i happened to listen to music that somehow fit the emotions/main theme of the book and i felt it added to the reading experience as it made my empathise even more.

I generally can't do both at once, unless I'm reading a newspaper...
I get annoyed that the music distracts me, or find that i'm so into the book the music might as well not be there at all.

i find this.

it depends, sometimes i need complete silence to properly absorb the book, and sometimes (like just now for instance) i can have a bit of tune playing while reading.

no i cant read when im trying to absorb material. its too hard. i cant have noise in the background when im trying to concentrate.

i need a high power fan and, sometimes, even those headphones that block out sound.

i simply cant be distracted.

even when writing, like copying notes or something, i find that i write slower and things just take longer. but thats just me.
