He's gotten Nickleback comparisons before; I found the following a couple years back in a random review I'd read about the Institute record:

"If Nickleback were fronted by a wannabe pretty boy instead of an ugly Canadian lumberjack, then they would sound like Institute. Needless to say, this is horrible. "

That's pure fucking gold, right there. lol.
