Apparently, they were recording one day (after kicking him out) and looked out the window to see him climbing over the wall with a keyboard. He then sat outside the window and played their songs on the keyboard for an hour. At this point, he left and got in a taxi to go home; except he had no money. "No problem" said the taxi driver. "Leave your keyboard with me and then phone the office tomorrow when you can get some money to pay". So he did. He called the next day and to his surprise there was no record of a keyboard being handed in to be held until payment. Haha.
I also saw him when he once played with Action Beat - standing watching them, bopping his head along with his fingers in his ears, trying to pretend to enjoy the experience as much as he could. | hehehe no I'd never heard that before.
Another band I like from here is Hector Collectors, mainly because they make me laugh and the singer seems a bit mental. I think they've split now though, haven't seen them in years. |

| | | Yeah I realised later on that I saw you were playing with Kong on yr band's myspazz. They are pretty fantastic live. I wrote this review when I saw them with Future Of The Left.
...After a heated session of nervy stares, and a slice of overheard misogyny, Kong take the stage.
Dressed in red, faces obscured by transparent plastic masks, they proceed to completely terrify the audience. Musical comparisons can be drawn to Shellac, albeit with any and all subtlety replaced with horrifying darkness.
It's no surprise when a heckler pipes up, and a bizarre exchange takes place.
"I'm the real deal" replies their singer, in a hideous northern cackle which he addresses the audience with throughout the set.
"No you're not!" The idiot shouts, and then, "Play a song then!"
Again, this evil voice.
"I dont have any songs. I make them all up."
It's all very intense by this point.
"You're doing a good job of that, carry on"
This the point where everyone in the audience is thinking, you're an utter cock, mate.
The band look at each other, and poise themselves to start the next song.
The singer leans into the mic.
"I'll tell you what...
(massive, cavernous pause)
You dont even know your own face"

| | Oooh fun, I was going to make a thread like this and forgot. So I'm glad you did!
In order (Calgary, Canada):
Jane Vain & The Dark Matter: http://www.myspace.com/janevainsmusic
Jamie Fooks (aka Jane Vain) produced and recorded her debut Love Is Where The Smoke Is, which has been in the Top 5 sellers at our local record store since its release in January. I recommend 'Don't Mind Us' and 'Ships Bound To Sink' from their MySpace.
Azeda Booth http://www.myspace.com/azedabooth
They were just signed to Absolutely Kosher and are planning to release their full-length in the summer. Yes, the lead vocalist is male, and he does sound like that live. 'Dead Girls' and 'Aislinn Bos, Y' are ace.
The Consonant C http://www.myspace.com/theconsonantc
They have a harpist, play ukes, and dulcimers live. 'Nuff said. Recommend: 'Wait' and 'Death and Decay'.
Woodpigeon http://www.myspace.com/woodpigeon
Everyone likes them here and the lead vocalist is a big name in local music, etc. They toured Europe I believe and are really fantastic live. Anything on the page should suffice.
I don't believe there is anyone else mentioning, most music from here is quite dull (minus Feist and Tegan & Sara of course!!). |

| | | Montréal, Québec, Canada Aside from the obvious Leonard Cohen, Arcade Fire, Melissa Auf der Maur, Bran Van 3000, etc., here are some of my favorite local bands/musicians. Xavier Caféine: Labelled as rock/punk/new wave. In my opinion, there is a lot of pop in it, or may I say glam pop? He used to be the leader of the band Caféine, now this is his solo stuff. Les Colocs: Local legends, and I don't think that by this I exagerate. They sound local, feel local. The death of the leader Dédé Fortin a few years ago (suicide by arakiri) was a tragedy. To me and many others. Their music doesn't seem to age. Ariane Moffatt: magical lady. Stefie Shock: His voice has been a few times compared to young Gainsbourg's. Hot. Anik Jean: Releades her solo album recently and I really dig hit. Pop rockish glamish.
I can't believe that I can't access Jean Leloup's myspace.
