my inner hippie wants to love ani, but everything i've ever heard of hers is terrible.

i'm going to secretly try a few of those tracks out. but i have low expectations.

im gonna download all of these.
i have a friend who loves ani difranco and is always raving about her. i always promise her that ill download something and give it a chance, but i never really get around to doing it. i think i downloaded one song by her, i dont remember the name, and found out i didnt like it too much. so that was the end of my ani difranco stage. but yeah.. i think im gonna give her another chance, cause despite how bad that one song was, ive heard a lot of good things about her.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of her lyrical style for the most part. Some of her songs are painfully transparent and personal in a way that they aren't relevant to anyone but herself. Wishin' and Hopin' was one of the first Ani songs I heard and although I prefer her 90's stuff it kinda put me off listening to more of her music.

these are some of my favorites.

I think pretty much the whole little plastic castle album is excellent. especially the title track, gravel, as is, independence day, pulse, 2 little girls. so basically there are only a couple on that album I don't like.

I don't think of her as appealing to hippies necessarily. I don't think of her spirit as particularly hippie anyway. meh, labels are meaningless.
and I have always found with every band/every album I have to be in a certain mood to listen to them. maybe you just weren't/aren't in a mood for her when you've tried to listen.
but my inner hippie says it's ok if you don't like her! don't force it!

I love Ani, she's incredibly live. I wouldn't call her hippy I think she's a lot more down to earth than that term suggests now. She has tons of good songs, loads of them have been mentioned except Done Wrong and I really like Work Your Way Out too. There's one song I really really hate but I can't think of the name of it right now.
