Ours: Mercy (Dancing for the Death of an Imaginary Enemy)
I haven't seen much discussion about this fabulous band here on KR. I'd like to think this is because of all the music industry bullshit that has kept them wrapped in red tape for the last few years. Well, their third album is finally here. Mercy (Dancing for the Death of an Imaginary Enemy) will be on the shelves April 15 (Tuesday), and it was produced by Rick Rubin... yay for big-name producers!
I'm hoping there are some Ours fans here on KR, and if not, I hope to turn people on to them. If you like Jeff Buckley, U2 or Queen, then you'll probably love Ours. I'm sure most people would say it's Jimmy's voice that is so captivating. I've seen them 12 or 13 times, I can't remember, but it's as if he casts a spell on you and you can't look away. His voice will pierce your soul and the music will take you away. They'll be on tour with Filter this summer, so Filter fans will be in for a treat.
You can listen to several of their new tracks at myspace.com/oursmusic and you can pre-order or buy the album at Amazon.com or FYE.com. FYE is offering a free signed booklet with the CD while supplies last.
Enjoy!
And speak up if you're a fan, please.

Reason: fixing links, argh.
I love Ours. I've been a fan since I first heard the song "Sometimes" from their album Distorted Lullabies. I got to finally see them live last year when they opened up for Circa Survive. They were AMAZING! They only played about 7 songs, but the energy that they put into the show made it okay that they only played that many. Jimmy's voice was incredible. I've been eagerly anticipating their new album. I'm so happy that it's FINALLY coming out. I usually never post on this message board, I usually just browse it, but I figured I should speak up since you asked and since I'm such a big fan of Ours. Hopefully I'll get to see them again soon.
Yay! I'm glad you came out of lurking. Perhaps you'll have a Filter date near you and you'll get to see them again soon. They do put on amazingly intense shows, whether it's just Jimmy with his guitar or the full band and only a 7-song set. Amazing.
Oh, did I say that they sounded EXACTLY like Buckley, U2 AND Queen?
no... and I hope you are not implying that is what I said.
You can hear the influences of those bands, whether it be vocally or musically. Maybe you don't like Ours, but it doesn't mean those influences aren't there.

A ripoff would suggest that they sounded identical, therefore, you would probably like them if you liked U2. You'd just be afraid to admit it because it's not cool to like a "ripoff." You don't need to be rude about it, though. I doubt that you listened to more than 45 seconds of a song, anyway.
In my opinion, there are only subtle similarities based on their influence (everyone is influenced by someone). Ours has a distinct sound of their own, and Jimmy can reach notes I haven't yet heard Bono hit.
Seriously though, if you don't like them, put your U2 cd back in and move along. This is here for discovery. To each their own. What's the point in trying to rip them apart?

Reason: grammar correction
For some reason I am having trouble seeing dirtyplotte rocking out to U2.
No one is complaining that you are trying to make people aware of a band's existence. At least I don't think they are? I am happy you did. So thanks.
I haven't even had a chance to listento this band yet -- if at all. I have a music log jam right now. It happens. I was just marvelling at those three bands/artists lumped together as another band's influences. You are wayyy too sensitive and this is the jukebox for chrissakes. Lighten up! Tell me all Paul Weller is dadrock if it makes you feel better?
It's sort of like when I tell people I love Jellyfish and that they are a cross between The Partridge Family, Queen, ELO, and Badfinger. And the band I like the most out of those is The Partridge Family.
Kapeesh? Sheesh.

the last time i listened to U2 was in high school buddy. and that was in the 80's.
and to hear a band you havent heard in 20 some odd years in another band so clearly that for a second you thought it might be them or at least members from the band is MORE than influence./
look, ok, you like a rip off band. just suck it up and love it.
i happen not to like it.
music is subjective, for the most part. i never said they were technically BAD, just definitely not for me.

Oh man. This is unrelated, but hilarious. I thought of it just now. I accidentally came across it on youtube. Awesome 90s-by-numbers video I may in fact have directed myself. I may use the band's shitty name to help teach kids the meaning of "portmanteau word".
