well, the beat to that "devil wouldn't recognize you" song is actually pretty hxc now that i listen to it. but isn't she a little old to be crooning about abusive relationships? idk. it's probably the least offensive one.

pharrell's songs ["candy shop", "give it 2 me", "heartbeat", "she's not me", "incredible", "spanish lesson", & "the beat goes on"] are surprisingly shittastic. he's obvs being stingy with the beats, coz these are just cheap as all hell. he can do better. it sounds like a kid playing with a broken 808.

but o/c, it's madonna, so its going to #1 & follow with a sold-out tour.

all i'm saying is if mariah loses to madonna in this white-girl-gone-ghetto contest, then i'm-a be mad as all hell.

i never expected since i have a huge dislike for pharell, but Give It To Me, Heartbeat, She's Not Me and Beat Goes On are fantastic, especially for an ageing popstar. l love it, she took somewhat of a risk with the songs being longer and going for a more contempory sound

There are however two huge stinkers: Incredible and Spanish Lesson..the former sounds like a shitty Gwen Stefani outtake from her even shittier 2nd cd and the latter is just tacky.

As far as pop songs go I would give Give It To Me, Heartbeat and She's Not Me 5 stars but why the weird bridges/middle sections where the song totally changes in the wrong direction and she's saying 'Get stupid, get down, huh huh' The part with the guitars in She's Not Me is cringeworthy too, otherwise an ace Madge track

The faggot who can edit those shitty parts out of those three songs should get a Nobell prize for Pop

She's Not Me is currently my fav track. I reckon it will be her next release and has number 1 written all over it.

The other tracks are still growing on me although I am not that keen on the cringeworthy lyrics in Miles Away 'I just woke up from a fuzzy dream, you never would believe the things that I have seen... I looked in the mirror and I saw your face, you looked right through me you were miles away' Lyrical genius, I think not.

I hated the old leak of Candy Shop, but I am warming to the album version so much so it's one of my favorite tracks. Funny how opinions can change.

i love Miles Away, i like the lyrics too. the other slower tracks, Devil Wouldn't Recognize You and Voices are great too.

I also love She's Not Me but the part where she starts singing 'She's licking her lips' etc is just off, I really dislike it

Yeah you're right about Candy Shop, just listened to the 2007 leak and it is the same version. Maybe it sounds more in context when played with the rest of the album, which you couldn't really get the feel of when it was first leaked, maybe... lol

candy shop should have been upgraded like "the beat goes on" was because now it sounds out of place withthe rest of the album, its not as textured as the rest of the other songs and sounds tired

im sort of shocked at the responses here. i'm the huge Madonna fan and this album is a little disappointing. the lyrics to a number of songs are beyond cringe worthy (Candy Shop isn't even going on my ipod) and it all just seems a tad bit age inappropriate. 4 Minutes is clearly performing the way it is because of Justin. the next single is Give It 2 Me and i'm extremely curious to see how it'll be received.

I agree. I pretty much gave up hope that MAdonna would release anything remotely substantial, and of course, I was wrong. Praise Allah.

After a few more licks of the ol candy, I am now thinking Incredible is actually better than She's Not Me, and I am digging the retro feel of Beat Goes On.

Sad as it sounds, I feel like Violet sucking on one of Willy Wonka's everlasting gobstoppers, tasting something different with each lick.
