though i dont think the image thing is supposed to be THAT important, its supposed to make sense without all that, its just something to make their shows more fun, like the flaming lips do, the residents, butthole surfers did etc. theres lots of similar bands to yipyip music wise who dont dress up like chess boards who are GOOODD (i think so anyways)
Yarr visual enhancements are of course meant to ENHANCE but I feel that Yip-Yip kind of rely on them which is why I don't really dig their albums. They seem to fall into the category of "performance art" more so than bands such as the Flaming Lips who still give bloody good visual performances whilst maintaining music as the first priority. I wanna see themmmmm. Like, now

I haven't seen them bookstore. There was an obscure band several years ago called Manplanet. I have their stuff (a few cds somewhere here) and saw them live. Their show was so amazing and energetic. It was balls hot out late summer at a small block party type festival, and they were all in lucra/spandex(?) jumpsuits. Their shtick ws that everything was retro. For example, they had one song about Skylab, and one about the Delorean. Each member had a color scheme and their hair, entire outfit, instruments, etc., were monochromatic. My friends and I adored them. They were literally dripping and wringing sweat during their performance, but they refused to take off their costumes, becuase they said it would ruin the show.
