favourite VS album

I like them in order of when they came out. 'American Thighs' is a great album, but their latest is.. lame. Is this the general consensus or what?

Edit: Shit, I forgot about the discussion thread. My bad..

i've only heard american thighs and thought it was boring. which is why i assume everyone says VS were ripping off the breeders.

i like the idea of resolver but haven't heard it. in a moment of weakness, i almost bought it. so that's probably my favorite.
and i prefer the pie-wagony girl to abercrombie folky slut.

so definitely resolver.

i gotta agree, they are best in the order that they were released. but by the time resolver came out, they had pretty much lost me.

Resolver is the finest car-crash record ever. Eight Arms is great pop-rock, American Thighs is lovely indie.

So all I've established is that IV is the weakest album. It has some good moments, but so much of it was leaked over the years or stolen from other releases that it never really felt like an album to me.

classic. I haven't made my mind up about Resolver. I might buy it myself.

i was just listening to IV and resolver (finally put them on the ipod) and like them more now than i did before. the slower songs, i even "love". wuuuut?! even the faster tracks (like the one with the haleakala) are kinda nice.
that said, i prefer nina over louise, always have. but i prefer nina over a lot of people.

and i'm gonna agree, first record is best, then eathy, resolver then IV.
american thighs is just so brilliant. it's got that lazy, slacker dazed feel and the lyrics are cryptic and kind of stupid and the music has those basslines (which is pretty much the only reason why people think they're breeders-esque) and the harmonies, though pretty, don't sound overworked. and nina has those certain moments when she breaks from that laconic voice and belts. and twinstar. and the last track is perfect. and i'm turning 25 this year. so it's a perfect record for me now.

oh and i kind of think of american thighs as like the depressed bestfriend of exile in guyville.

I think American Thighs and EATHY are both great, I like them the same but for different reasons.

Resolver has 2 or 3 good songs but Louise really just ran out of shit at that point...she still doesn't have anything interesting to say so I just stick to the first two and BIOYA.

i imagine it as the fat one's pissy, abrasive meat & potatoes rock record and i like the cover art. in theory it sounds really good, whereas the other ones don't.

sorta like judging somebody by their myspace. they may seem alright going by what they have to say about themselves. but then you meet them in person and end up having to fake a family emergency to get away because they're such a fucking drag.

its no secret just how much i love VS, massive fan. each album has qualities that distinguish them strongly from the others, if i had to pick only one, it would actually be 8 arms, even though american thighs is the sentimental favourite. and with resolver, louise's lyrics are so slap bang angry. IV is the least "catchy".
may i just remind everyone of the awesome EP "blow it out your ass, its veruca salt."? it rocks and makes me wanna be 15 again so i can SHIMMER.

i adore the breeders and i do not feel that VS ever ripped them off. its a different sound.

I have to concede that American Thighs is the probably the "better" album, but I enjoy listening to Eight Arms... more. It's like "popcorn alternative" or something. Some kind of super-specialised sub-genre, and quite unashamed of itself.

I can hear the Breeders reference on American Thighs, but to me it disappears after that. I never could get into the Breeders, I used to own Pod but it did nothing for me.

I think "Resolver" is my favourite, with "American Thighs" close behind. My least favourite is definitely IV, even the title is uninspired.
