Were they good? Why do I associate them with the awful "I Want You To Want Me" and bad haircuts?
Someone convince me otherwise please.
cricket cricket.
They also sang "mommy's alright, daddy's alright, they just seem a little weird, surrender, surrender, but don't give yourself away, way, aayy," but then there's kind of a unique/catchy guitar riff after that.
The other songs are similar-sounding. Then they came out with "The Dream Police" song and album, which is also, similar, except lacking the reverberation and exuberant audience enthusiasm.
I swear that "Cheap Trick Live at Budokan" (1979) had some fake audience cheers in it, but this article suggests the contrary and explains that they were a hit in Japan.
I like cheap trick..hey ill admit it...yes there's other songs past the I want u to want me song. Surrender of course...dream police...the flame...some say they wussed out with that one..they also do in the street..which as based on That 70s show. She's Tight is a cool song too.
Get wasted and wave a lighter to The Flame in your lounge. You'll love it, and even the Trick themselves will hate you for it.

Yeah I know. I wouldn't do that to them. Think they've been through enough already with the flame song.
I hold a certain affection for it. I mean, it's better than "Every Rose has its Thorn".

Don't feel compelled to like anyone, it's okay to not get/like The Trick.
All you can do is listen to the rest of their tunes and decide whether you like 'em or not. I', puzzled why you feel the "need" to be convinced?!?
They are just cheesy good time rock and roll wth catchy riffs. If you weren't a child of the 70s the nostalgia doesn't factor in... so why try? Think of guys with big combs in their tight jeans pockets driving muscle cars wearing feathered hair? If Surrender doesn't grab you - don't bother trying the rest really.

Go check out Trick on June 28th as they perform the Sgt. Pepper's album in its entirety at the Hollywood Bowl. Last summer, Trick sold out two performances at the HB and blew everyone away. So, they've been invited back again to recreate the magic. That should convince you how great these guys still are.
And you might want to check out their latest release, Rockford. It was hailed as a terrific album by music critics and fans.
i know im going to lost ALL credibility with this admission, but this is another one of my favorites from that era. i seriously was so turned on by this guy. when he got on his knees on the video i thought i was gonna die every time.
the record get lucky had a song called 'emotional" and i sang that twenty billion times when i was a kid. over and over and over. i loved that record

Because some Cheap Trick fans I offended want to commit jihad against me. Long story.
Dirtyplotte-
I'm with you on Cheap Trick and even (or especially) She's Tight, but Loverboy? Youch! I'm not even objecting to the red leather or headbands. If you've never seen the ten rebellion film Over the Edge get on that one asap. Regrding Budokan I believe that was the album they "hit" with and people discovered the original's later.
Please do not take offence, but in light of this recent admission I must ask -- do you like Billy
