libertines: the musical!

Libertines duo working on musical

Doherty and Barat performed together in London in April year
Pete Doherty and his former bandmate Carl Barat are writing a stage musical together, it has been confirmed.
A spokesperson for the Donmar Warehouse in London said its associate director, actor Douglas Hodge, had been working with the former Libertines members.

The project, however, was "very much in the early stages of development, with no deadlines attached", she said.

According to reports, the musical will be about the struggles of an up-and-coming rock 'n' roll band.

Last April, Doherty and Barat performed together for the first time since the Libertines split up in 2004.

The one-off reunion followed an interview with Barat in which he said he would be "happy" to work with Doherty again "at some point".

'New songs'

At last week's NME Awards, Barat told the Sunday Mirror he had been approached by the Donmar to write a musical with Doherty.

"The theatre wants lots of new songs," he was quoted as saying. "We'll probably have to write about 20."

Since the break-up of the Libertines, Doherty has recorded two albums with Babyshambles.

Barat, meanwhile, has fronted the band Dirty Pretty Things.

this sounds rubbish. I'm sorry but lets be honest, the libertines were a very good band, but they were good because of the overall mythology they peiced together. The lyrics, the ram shackle music the two yelping voices and the whole image. They are not the sort of band that you thought "wow, here are two guys with such a powerful grasp of melody and lyrics they should do a musical."

I can't see it being anymore than just a play about a band with the preformance parts just being new songs kinda like Brothers of the Head (which I wouldn't even class as a musical)
