New Releases Featured on AMG ( feel free to add more new releases)

AMG's Featured Albums:

Autechre
Quaristice
Warp

The only aspect that prevents Autechre's Quaristice from seeming open-ended, as a bunch of tracks splayed arbitrarily across a disc, is that it begins and ends with ambient (as in entirely beat-less) pieces. At 73 minutes in length, most of the 20 tracks are more like vignettes, yet the ideas arrive fully formed, never appearing to be dashed off or loosely sketched.

IDM, Experimental Techno, Glitch

The Black Crowes
Warpaint
Silver Arrow

This week, the Black Crowes return with Warpaint, their first album since 2001's Lions. The time off, along with the addition of guitarist Luther Dickinson, has revitalized the Crowes, who turn Warpaint into their best album in well over a decade.

American Trad Rock, Southern Rock, Blues-Rock

Carlene Carter
Stronger
Yep Roc

Coming off an extended period of personal troubles and loss which included the death of her mother June Carter Cash and step-father Johnny Cash in 2003 along with longtime boyfriend and producer Howie Epstein that same year, singer-songwriter Carlene Cash returns with Stronger. Full of hard-won maturity, it is one of Cash's best and most personal albums to date.

Neo-Traditionalist Country, Roots Rock, Contemporary Country

The Gutter Twins
Saturnalia
Sub Pop

For Saturnalia, Greg Dulli and Mark Lanegan draw from the Gothic tradition, where good and evil and pleasure and pain crisscross and entwine facilely and indelibly, where the secular and the sacred have no clear defining lines. Much of the album sounds quite similar to the Twilight Singers' material, but this is by no means a bad thing. Dulli is all powerful, surging hooks and biting, twisting electric guitars, while Lanegan's baritone give the words an extra power, subtlety, and resonance, a collaboration which proves itself to be absolutely alluring.

Alternative Pop/Rock

Alan Jackson
Good Time
Arista

Alan Jackson spent 2006 in a quiet, contemplative mood, delivering an austere gospel collection and a late-night romantic album. This year, Jackson lightens up and has a Good Time, one of his brightest, lightest albums ever which also happens to be his first album of all original songs.

Contemporary Country

Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks
Real Emotional Trash
Matador

With Real Emotional Trash, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks offer a dense, delirious collection of winding guitar jams -- jams that lack the hazy, formless feel of Pig Lib and are anchored by the wallop of new drummer Janet Weiss, formerly of Sleater-Kinney. This is the closest Malkmus has yet come to re-creating the sound and feel of his beloved obscure early '70s stoner-rock bands.
