New Madonna Album, "Hard Candy", Out April 28/29

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Madonna has dubbed her final album of new material for her longtime Warner Bros. label "Hard Candy," and will release it on April 29, her publicist confirmed on Tuesday.
The album, which features such songs as "Candy Store" and the first single "Four Minutes," is the follow-up to "Confessions on a Dance Floor," which debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. pop chart in November 2005.

The title and release date were first reported by Entertainment Weekly's Web site (http://www.ew.com), and the details were confirmed by Madonna's spokeswoman, Liz Rosenberg. Entertainment Weekly quoted Rosenberg as saying the 49-year-old singer "loves candy."

"Hard Candy" will be Madonna's last studio release for Warner Bros. before she begins a wide-ranging 10-year recording, touring and merchandising deal with Artist Nation, a new initiative launched by concert promoter Live Nation. Warner Bros., a unit of Warner Music Group Corp will also release a hits collection.

So, inspite of the gag-reflex over her collabo with Timbaland, I'm super curious to hear how this album will sound. It will either be brilliant or embarassing, I think. Of course, this is where Cleetus will come and fuck this all to shit by relating the first time he heard "The Beast Within" to his current crush on the janitor at Wendy's.

I actually don't mind the Duran Duran album Timbaland/JT helped produce. It's not amazing, but it has grown on me. I also couldn't stand American Life when it came out, but I love it now. So, yeah. Madonna. Exciting for a bunch of fags, I'm sure.

And Courtney's album is coming out .... when?

i'm really looking forward to this record, anything is better than confessions...you know how much i dislike that record.

american life was a huge disapontment at first, but after a while i grew to really like that record.

and you know, all of my friends who like madonna, say the same thing. it's a really good album. music is pretty good, too. but yes, confessions is just a bore now. hung up was brill, as was jump and let it will be, but damn, the rest is so tedious now. i wonder if it will go the way of american life and be much more palitable a few years down the road.

did you hear the leak of "candy shop" a while ago? i hung my head in shame. so hopefully, it's been giving an overhaul.

Didn't someone else have an album called Hard Candy? It feels strangely familiar to me, and not really in a good way.

Aye, I'll take it to google.

Edit: right, yeah, Counting Crows. Hm.

What do you mean not good? hahaha.

I can't help but feel that this album is going to be really cheap, the whole candy/sex thing is really lame. Not in a good sexual way like Erotica though.

But Hard Candy is better title than the rumored Licorice, even if it's lacking at best. Maybe I'll be surprised? I hope so.

Ahead of the pack once again. I'm kind of over American Life, but I appreciated it when it first came out.

It sucked how every review made fun of her rapping, which actually wasn't that bad. It wasn't good either, more like an effect you can love or leave. Like the synth rev when the sun comes out in "Rain" or the flamenco break in "Deeper & Deeper". The rapping wasn't a big part of the album at all, but that was all you read about.

I finally listened to M.I.A.'s first album, which everybody was cumming over and found her rapping FAR more embarrassing. Maybe there's a valid message in there, but it sounds fucking ridiculous.

The real flaw of American Life is that most of the hooks aren't quite strong enough to support her preaching. If she went more in a You Can Dance to the Kabbalah direction, it could have been a great record. edit: or a far worse record, i'm not sure.

Confessions sucks because it's her first throwaway. American Life got her stranded on the island old people go to make their art records nobody gives a fuck about, and Confessions just had to be the makeshift raft that got her the back to civilization.

I think the new record will be decent. American Life was ambitious but not very much fun. Confessions was a party album, but played it way too safe. It seems as though the new one will have a different sound (for a Madonna record at least) but no shit lyrics about the tree of life or why she used to think being famous was good but just realized it isn't, even though she's come to that exact conclusion at least ten times in the past.

I sort of agree. I hate women with a sweet tooth anyway & haven't been able to take Madonna seriously as a dick pig since she made that comment about preferring books to fucking these days.

That bass line in Erotica always goes right up my spine. It's what I use to relate to stories of people all freaked out that Elvis songs will make the kids want to fuck.

To save myself from disappointment I'm not even going to envision it as a record about fucking.
I just pretend candy is to Madonna what stylish Japs are to Gwen, something to sing about, and hope it all makes sense when put to music.

It was like the party ended after Jump, though. Like some switched the NWA record with Anne Murray.

She needs to put out some completely mad eclectic bullshit. Fuck record sales, just go completely off the radar. Madge meets Yoko Ono meets Psychedelic Nausea-Inducing Dayglo Pap meets Prog. Produced by Joe Meek's ghost. I just don't want Madonna to be boring. And I really think she is now.

Off the radar Madonna would suck. The great thing about her music up until recently has been that it was always interesting without ever sacrificing accessibility.
I don't want to see her do that Radiohead thing, where they tried to distract from the fact they couldn't top OK Computer by going all left field.
If she can't be interesting the way she always has in the past (amazing singles that genuinely kick the piss out of everybody elses) I'd rather she just retire.

I sort of wish she retired after Music. She dug herself out of that mid-90's rut of shitty ballads and show tunes and just kept getting better for a while. Ray of Light to Beautiful Stranger to Music to Don't Tell Me.

Then again, I wouldn't put it past her to surprise everybody again. Sometimes I think I'm sick of Madonna, and other times I unabashedly want to lick her ass, because what she's done over the span of her career is pretty amazing.

No, I think she should totally sacrifice accessibility. If she's going to try to chase the zeitgeist, she'll just end up sadder and sadder. She needs to break away, and totally out-there insane bollocks would help. Though it probably needs to be clearly signposted, so people don't think that she was trying to sell squillions with it and failed.

I like her and all, but she could yet become Cliff Richard. Don't let it happen.

I can hear the call and replies between Timbo, JT and Madge already and it doesn't sound good. Maybe it'll be hot, I doubt it. I will admit that the shitty quality clip I heard of '4 Minutes' sounded damn catchy, a lot like Timbaland's usual stuff though.

I agree with the Erotica statement. It's one of the only songs that makes me want to fuck IMMEDIATELY.

you can download a radio rip of the final song on here:

Ohh! Crapp...: 4 Minutes!

it has moments of catchiness but i don't really like it to be honest..the horns sound cheap and digital. im not a justin fan at all but he sounds proper sexy i think.

i didn't like hung up at first too but that turned out all right too in the end

i think the album will be at least somewhat good, she's not stupid - at her age one stinker might prove to be disastrous for her recording career.

let's just hope she doesn't take the candy theme too far and rolls around naked in a bath full of candy a la fergie/gwen. or look like a 60 year old candy striper in the video
