I'm quite looking forward to seeing the band "Turisas" when they come to my city next month on tour - they're a really silly bunch of chaps from Finland ("Turisas" is a Finnish god of war) who dress up like vikings and sing songs about pillaging etc.
It should be a great gig, with lots of energy since the venue they're going to play at is seriously tiny - I don't think they'll all fit on stage, so there should be some good crown interaction. Plus the support band is a Pirate Battle Metal band (Alestorm) - in the words of my friend Martin "It couldn't appeal to me more if you put a Krispy Kreme dohnut on stage -
I'm there!"
Anyone here seen these guys live?

Oh cool - whereabouts are you going? I've always wanted to go to the chillier parts of Europe; I'm trying to find a conference that all my research group can go to together somewhere like Finland or Norway (I'd LOVE it if we could find one in Iceland, but there doesn't seem to be much demand for biomedical conferences there!)
I love pagan metal bands, and have seen most, but I havent seen turisas. I used to like finntroll back in the day, when they were normal ppl instead of assholes. And I love Storm, bathory, otyg, Isengard etc...
I've been to Norway twice and it is so beautiful, especially in the mountains. You can really believe in fairytails when you are there. Its breath taking.

I'm going to Oslo, Tromsø, Lakselv and Vadsø in Norway. Taking a drive into Lappland from there. Possibly going for a few days to Denmark but I may not have enough time. Going to Inferno Festival in Oslo for 4 days. Ummm then I am going to Amsterdam and Groningen in the Netherlands

Wow sounds great! I've been to Aarhus - they have really fantastic clothes over there, (the over-abundance of fur bothered me at first, but my husband pointed out that they actually get bloody cold over there so I shouldn't be too quick to judge) so if shopping's your thing, I recommend it.
I gots me on the guestlist! My husband emailed the support band Alestorm, and managed to get our names on the guestlist - hoorah! My costume kicks ass - I'm a pirate captain and my husband is my first mate. Yarrr!
