an incident of courtney kicking the **** out of liz phair (sadly, not literally)

so liz sucks and everything, but that song "dance of the seven veils" is kind of good.

i've found an old compilation i burned and hole's improv of "bring me the head of john" is on there.
and when courtney starts freaking the **** out, it's absolute bliss. i can't even understand what she's saying, but she taps into something that totally annihilates liz phair's cheeky little song. similar subject matter, characters and everything, but courtney gives these mother****ers flowing blood.

i think the reason liz phair is notoriously hit or miss is she has no access to the energies that make otherwise lackluster material so powerful.

courtney does. even **** like "samantha" works better than it should. if you think the new material is lame, imagine how much worse it would be in somebody else's hands.

you only like your rockstars ****ed up. thing is liz was never a rockstar. she was always a singer songwriter and she was always more concerned with themes and combining the weirdest words and chords she could come up with. look up girly sound. those songs make it clear that she was never to be considered alongside the courtneys and the holes and the other good people. she was even channelling bob dylan epic song-stories in a lot of the songs or remaking "walk a line" as **** or die. she's in another arena. or was.
love liz. and you do too, admit it.

i should add i was just listening to the muffs and they have a track called "love" where courtney calls them and defends herself about kat stealing a dress or something. lol. she's a wacko. so cute.

Liz on stage acts like she doesn't even want to be there. Flower is an ok song as well.

i think that's what made me eventually warm up to liz's first two albums.

liz has this great way of detaching herself from her songs, so that when she sings about herself in her story-book lyrical way, I don't ever really relate the lyrics to liz herself.

it's easy to appreciate her songs' simple structures because she's so loosely attached to them. i'm tired of artists that work so hard to let everyone know how much of themselves they put into their work. at the end of the day, i really don't care.
