I went through hell with my boss to get the time off to go and see Sonic Youth, and then after I'd booked plane tickets and everything I discovered I missed PJ Harvey by one day. Damnation.

yeah well peej was ridiculously expensive anyway. didn't we discuss it and we both decided we couldn't afford it?

this year was SO fucking good for gigs - and i missed all of them except sonic youth. cat power i missed because she fucking sold out way faster than i expected her to, wilco because i couldn't afford it - and apparently they were fucking AMAZING and i am still really gutted that i missed them - and kimya dawson because elisabeth bloody forgot to get me a ticket.

i hope nothing clashes with the breeders, who will be here august 8th.

i am not going to miss bill bailey for ANYTHING though.

My worst clash was in November 06 when Cat Power and Neko Case both played one-off London shows on the same night.

I chose Cat Power, who has been back maybe 5 times since. To date Neko still hasn't set foot back in the UK. Clearly made the wrong choice! Especially when I found out that Kelly Hogan played support at the Neko show.

Having said that, Cat Power was way way better that night than either of the other 2 times I've seen her since, so at least it was a good show.

One time earlier this year there were four or five shows that I quite wanted to see on the same night, I forget who else, but certainly Shelly Poole and PJ Harvey were both playing... Peej was really expensive and sold out way in advance though, so I went to Shelly. I think Gwen Stefani was playing that night too (I hate her solo stuff but figure it must be better live!)
