Quote:
Like I heard her backwards say,
'I can take one thousand showers
and never be clean', of course she lied away.
She is ten times heavier, and stronger,
than you found the grave, or ever was,
He's got it down, name.
Do you know what I need? Who doesn't lie?
You know what I mean? If I'm never in,
down with you, like you don't know?
I am so, angry,
I am so, at ease,
I feel just like some great big disease.
I think you need ice water. But the only thing
that you really hate is all its emptiness.
I'll swim, and I will drink myself to death,
If I'm never in, down with you,
Like you don't know. |
Possibly the most depressing song I have ever heard. It sounds like she is seconds away from killing herself.
It was the first Cat Power song I'd ever heard, and it was recommended on here of course, in a 'depressing songs' thread. I'm surprised I don't see it mentioned around here a lot more.
I really like 'Good Clean Fun' by her as well, similarly bleak. But there's no good live versions of either of these songs on the internet that I can find.
Anyone else feel the same about the song? 'What Would the Community Think' is a great album, but I might check out 'Myra Lee' if more of the songs are like Ice Water.
