Mick Hucknall and co to call it quits

Simply Red are set to split in 2009, it has been announced.

Lead singer Mick Hucknall has said that their current album 'Stay' will be their last and that they will disband after their tour, due to end in two years time.

He said: "I've kind of decided that the 25 years is going to be enough."

Hucknall revealed that he wants to concentrate on an album of his own.

He said: "I've just recorded an album that is a tribute to Bobby Bland, a blues and R&B artist. It's a solo project and I've really enjoyed it - so much that I feel the time has come now to just put a book-end to the [Simple Red] story."

The singer added that he planned to "invent a new form of music," which was influenced by R&B tracks from the 1960s.

He told Gold radio network: "It's a big challenge, but I can't do it under the name of Simply Red."

What a bloody tease! I was readying to celebrate but I have to wait another 2 bloody years and even then.....Mick isn't leaving us for good! We can do without the solo stuff.....nobody cares anymore!!

And wait... isn't Simply Red just a franchise type bad, with Mick and some mates? I thought it hadn't been a "real" band since about Stars. Which had one bearable song, though I can't remember which one it was.
Basically he'll carry on as if nothing has changed, but will go under a different moniker in order to try to dupe people who have a sensibly in-built antipathy to anything going under the name "Simply Red". I'll be on my guard. He'll clearly never top The Right Thing. "I feel I'm getting harder now..."

I know this guy who's parents own a luxury guesthouse for celebs when they come to Ireland. Mick came to stay and I was like, dude, that's something you you don't advertise
