In an interview with
The Guardian, the
Foo Fighters singer addressed rumours that the band's new track
'Let It Die' is about the infamous couple.
The lyrics depicting "
a simple man and his blushing bride/intravenous, intertwined" have already courted controversy, with many listeners assuming the lines refer to
Cobain and
Love.
Addressing the claims,
Grohl enigmatically explained that the song was "written about feeling helpless to someone else's demise".
Speaking directly about
Cobain and
Love, he said: "I've seen people lose it all to drugs and heartbreak and death. It's happened more than once in my life, but the one that's most noted is
Kurt."
Grohl added: "There are a lot of people that I've been angry with in my life, but the one that's most noted is
Courtney. So it's pretty obvious to me that those correlations are gonna pop up every now and again."
The new
Foo Fighters album,
'Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace', is set for release on September 25.
