| | | Tainted Music Do you ever find out something about the artists you like that make you want to chuck CD cases out of the window?
Like, for instance, I just found out that the singer from The Sounds did that Snakes On A Plane song. Which is pathetic. But then Fallout Boy remixes my favourite of theirs, Queen of Apology, for the OST for the movie. Which is worse.
And now I have to never listen to them again.
And those fucking punk bands selling hardcore rock underground avant-garde transgressive anti-establishment songs to Apple and The Gap? For God's sakes, it's embarrassing to the artists who actually put effort into not being hypocritical whiny twats with exaggerated psychological problems.
What taints music for you?

| | Nope, I buy for the music, not because of the person/people.
Though it makes me wonder is there anyone in this world that still listens to their Gary Glitter CD justing KNOWING what that man's hobby is? |

| | | i have a couple albums/songs that i don't listen to because they remind me or were introduced to me by an ex-boyfriend, or were something i listened to when i was going through a rough patch. they just bring up associated mixed feelings so i don't enjoy the music anymore, but not 'cause of something the artist has done. |

I'm having the hardest time getting into nightwish because of this.
They're one of my ex's favorite bands on the face of the Earth. So whenever I try to listen to them I don't think "great music" ..instead the whole time, I'm reminded of him. like that's his thing. makes no sense. Gah. |

| | | To be honest. I either love music or hate it, I try not to get drawn into the whys and wherefores. It either gets me, or it doesn't. Unless you're a right wing extremist I'll give you a decent try. |

| | | I have my moments where I can't separate the artist from the art, but for the most part I try to just enjoy the music. However, if you're listening to someone you think is really cool as a human being as well as an artist, then that's a real bonus. |

| | | I'm another in the not caring about the artist stakes.
If they're a tosser, they're a tosser but they make good music so I'll listen to it. If they happen to be a nice person, then that's fine too. |

| | | A personal ancedote While I love Depeche Mode and like most of their songs, the song "Policy of Truth" was forever changed for me about 10 years ago. To make a long story short, I was at a karaoke bar with a very, very depressed friend who had girl problems. He got extremely drunk and decided to sing "Policy of Truth" at karaoke. His version was hyperemotional and he cried during some of it. The best part was that the smoke machine malfunctioned during the song and he looked as if he were on fire, he was completely obscured by smoke. I was watching "120 Minutes" on VH1 Classic this last weekend, and they played the video for the song. I still was laughing my ass off.

BTW, emily, was it embarrassing or just flat out hilarious because he was so drunk and sad?
BTW2, Bono INDEED. What a toolbag. |

BTW2, Bono INDEED. What a toolbag. | He was among friends, so it really wasn't too embarrassing. The drunk part was pretty funny, but the nonstop smoke put the whole experience over the top. I vaguely remember some disco lights too. Jesus.
