Daft Punk Searches For Humanity In Film

Reclusive electronica duo Daft Punk is bringing its vision to life on the big screen with "Daft Punk's Electroma." The film will be screened in the coming days as part of the Directors' Fortnight, an unofficial adjunct to the Cannes Film Festival that begins Thursday (May 18).

"Daft Punk's Electroma" was directed by Daft Punk principals Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter. The film, a psychedelic musical and visual odyssey that revolves around two robots and their quest to become human, is the pair's directorial debut. In 2003, they collaborated with Japanese director Leiji Matsumoto on the animated film "Interstella 5555," which also screened at the Directors' Fortnight.

The theme of machine vs. man has been frequently explored in Daft Punk's music, most recently on the 2005 studio album "Human After All." The group recently played its first U.S. show in eight years at Califonia's Coachella Festival and has a handful of summer European festival dates on tap.
