| | | The Demise of FOPP. Fucking GUTTED.
They are officially bankrupt, and all stores are now closed.
My friends ex worked at the Tottenham Court Road branch, and they're not even getting paid. I think they're gonna go in and just take a bunch of shit tonight. BBC NEWS | Business | Fopp closes down its 105 stores

| | | I passed the one here with the shutters down today, it made me so sad. I thought Fopp would outlive all the high street dinosaurs, it always seemed buisy.
The empolyees aren't getting their last month's paycheques either. In effect they've worked for a month for free. That's terrible. |

x | Play.com is my god.
Also, I'm pretty sure Music Zone got bought out by Fopp?

| | ^^^ it was the one Sheffield I was on about earlier. There's basically one good indie left around here now (Jack's) that even vaguely caters to my taste. Quote:

I was in there last week and they were only accepting cash. |

no wonder though - so cheap they couldn't have been making much profit.

| | Ack someone told me yesterday and I seriously felt like my heart broke a little. I'd go into Fopp to buy a cd to cheer me up a few times a week.

| | | i can't belive it, everytime i went in the place was full, and i'm sure i'm not the only person who'd go in for one CD and come out with 9 or 10 just because they were so cheap |

| | | I'm gutted too. It offered something unique as a record shop, it was always the place I went when I wasn't sure what I wanted. I discovered so many great bands through just taking a chance after seeing someone I'd only vaguely heard of on the £5 shelves. And all the books and DVDs too, it was probably the best place in Glasgow for independant film DVDs.
it really sucks. One had just opened 2 weeks ago down from my work too. that lasted all of 2 weeks, now we're back to being a town without a record store.

| | Shit! I love(d) Fopp...now there's only one good record shop left in Nottingham, Select A Disc, and I'll mostly be back to that, and Amazon and ebay. I'm going to miss it. For a high street shop it was pretty good with more independent stuff.
Straight after Music Zone went bankrupt too - there will be no cheap high street music shops left soon. I didn't realise Fopp bought Music Zone. My home town now only has HMV and supermarkets to buy CDs in since Music Zone closed, pretty bad. | |
