Here is just a TASTE of what the 2006 Bumbershoot has to offer... Please check back often as we add exciting new details!

Music
The diverse, genre-crossing 2006 Bumbershoot musical lineup includes:
Kanye West • AFI • A Tribe Called Quest • Yellowcard • Atmosphere • Hawthorne Heights • Feist • Shooter Jennings • Mates of State • Of Montreal • Matt Costa • The Blood Brothers • Bettye Lavette • the subdudes • Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk • Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings • Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey • Yerba Buena • The English Beat • Gossip • 3 Inches of Blood • Deerhoof • Laura Veirs • Nouvelle Vague • Breakestra • Jamie Lidell • Vashti Bunyan • Dengue Fever • Metric

Dance
The Bagley Wright Theatre is the destination for the best in dance at Bumbershoot. Headlining this year's program are Montreal's Rubberbandance Group in their Seattle debut, and Seattle's own Pacific Northwest Ballet. Led by choreographer Victor Quijada, and fresh from performances in Japan (EXPO 2005), London, Holland, Finland, and New York City, RBDG combines world-class breakdance with contemporary classicism. PNB will cameo at each performance, providing a sneak peek at their November world premiere, also choreographed by Quijada. Festival-goers will be able to see PNB solo, in a special intimate performance of their own in the Bagley Wright over Bumbershoot weekend.

Spectacle
2006 Bumberbout, Flat Track Derby Invitational, co-hosted by the Rat City Roller Girls, features seven of the best flat track roller derby teams nationwide vying for the first ever Bumberbout title and cash prizes! The bout will be held one day only at Seattle Center's KeyArena. In addition to fine sportsmanship and unbridled energy, expect to see musical performances, madcap announcers and outlandish outfits. Don't be surprised to see roller girls skating through the Seattle Center grounds on Saturday!

Literary Arts
Best-selling authors and the unexpected can be found in our Literary Arts program. Featured for 2006 is renowned author, cultural critic, and rock journalist Greil Marcus, author of Mystery Train, Lipstick Traces and the forthcoming The Shape of Things to Come: Prophecy and the American Voice. Also headlining will be Mary Gaitskill, acclaimed author of Veronica, nominated for the National Book Award and cited by the New York TImes as one of the ten best books of 2005.

Flatstock
Bumbershoot and the American Poster Institute are eager to present Flatstock 9—featuring the best and most innovative underground poster artists and their unique work. Thoroughly embodying the spirit of Bumbershoot, Flatstock unites powerful visual design with the creativity and passion of indie rock.

Comedy
This wildly popular program of national and regional comedians will expand to two stages in order to satiate festival-goers' appetite for humor! This addition will provide more space for entertaining perspectives on the political and social issues of the day as well as the silly and ridiculous. Curated by Lisa Leingang of CBS Television, these national comedians will bring another dimension to the 2006 Bumbershoot.

Film
For the first time ever, the renowned Seattle International Film Festival—the largest and most highly attended film festival in the United States—will curate Bumbershoot's 1 Reel Film Festival. The 1 Reel Film Festival features live-action, animated, experimental and documentary films, music videos, and shorts from regional, national, and international filmmakers. Whether a film aficionado or simply curious, there is something for everyone!

Visual Arts
Innovative exhibits and hands-on activities in the Northwest Rooms of the Seattle Center will feature arts of varied media. Many of these exhibits will address the theme of “High Tech vs. Home Ec.” These works will explore the intersection and overlap of technology-based art and the recent surge in the craft movement.

Theatre
The Center House at Seattle Center will host three exceptional days of regional theater programming co-curated by Theatre Puget Sound (TPS). TPS nurtures a healthy and vibrant theatre community, strive to develop strong ties among the region's theatre professionals, and raise visibility of this region's theatre scene at the local, national, and international levels.

Vendors
Bumbershoot has undergone a vendor makeover! The result is the new, innovative and unconventional Indie Market. The Indie Market features independent artists, designers, crafters and retailers who, through the rising DIY movement, redefine the traditional craft fair by creating inventive items from duct tape wallets to vinyl record hand bags. Working in conjunction with Urban Craft Uprising and I Heart Rummage, Bumbershoot will gather local and national creatives, fashionistas, and tastemakers to showcase their DIY goods, making the Indie Market one of the most dynamic additions to the 2006 Festival.

Last year was the best! I got to dance onstage with Iggy and the Stooges! I don't know if I'll go this year, it's too expensive.
