| | | I love all of Kristin Hersh's work -- solo, and with 50 Foot Wave and Throwing Muses.
My favorite Muses albums are The Real Ramona and University, although I've been listening to the most recent album quite a bit ("Portia", in particular, is a great song).
I know a lot of people feel that Kristin's best solo album is Hips and Makers, but the one I always gravitate to is Sunny Border Blue. The first three songs still floor me, and the rest is almost as amazing.
I still can't understand why she and Throwing Muses aren't better known.

| | | i think throwing muses is one of the best bands ever. they made a little genre of their own with their self titled debut. and it's one of the best albums ever made, as is the real ramona (which is my favorite by them) and university is also as beautiful. their last album (the other self titled one) is almost unbearable to me though, as is most of 50 foot wave. it's just too noisy and un-melodic (if that's a word) for me, anyway.
my favorite throwing muses song is either honeychain or snakeface or vicky's box. they have so many great ones. tanya donelly and kristin hersh' voices sound so good together, especially in ramona.
sunny border blue is indeed powerful stuff. i always remember "spain" off that album, which is i think my favorite kristin hersh song. oh wait, "me and my chams" and "your ghost" are tremendous. |

| | | i could never get into them outside of the self-titled (the first one, and i don't like it as a whole at all) and house tornado. i have hips and makers somewhere and was kind of getting into it but i'm not sure where it went. i think i may have liked something off "chains changed", but i don't remember. the only thing i have on CD is house tornado (i have the s/t, the fat skier, chains changed, and counting backwards as well as house tornado on vinyl).
my favorite songs are "green" (i think a lot of people don't like this much?), "giant", "garoux des larmes", "saving grace".
so maybe i'm not a "fan", but house tornado went through plenty of rotations when i was in high school.

| Agreed. That's my favorite as well. She brings me to tears on 'William's Cut.' Her cover of 'Trouble' is AMAZING.
I tend to gravitate towards Tanya's early songs -- her early TM songs were a pre-empt to what was to come. Those songs - Not Too Soon, Honeychain, Green, Angel, Pools In Eyes, etc. were so fucking wierd, but so poppy and pretty. I was such a huge Belly fan. This is where it started.
Real Ramona is probably my favorite Throwing Muses record as a whole (Hook In Her Head!), but I really like the first album as well. It's just so...out there. They sound like nothing else. There's something going on in every minute of every song.
University had a little more of a mainstream sound - great album. Shimmer, Start, Hazing, Teller, Snakeface, Bright Yellow Gun. All classics. The first 1/2 of that album is one of my favorite string - of - songs put to disk. None are disposable. |

It had everything. I personally love Your dirty answer, Candyland and Listerine [she didn't leave anything unsaid there!]. |

| | For some reason I prefer Kristin's solo work, but Throwing Muses are great too.I love "University". As far as 50FootWave goes, I like them in small doses, which is why I'm grateful they put out some eps. I never got the full length though. |

| | The real ramona is my favorite album of theirs but I'm sure I haven't heard everything by them.
I've never heard 50 foot wave either, anyone want to upload some?
It would be hard to pick my fave song from the real ramona but I'm very partial to not too soon, two step, couting backwards, hook in her head, probably in that order. so I guess not too soon?
