imo it sounds less like sub pop stuff and more like bad metal. I will ask the bf if he recognizes it.

I'm pleased to report that the bf does not know what it is. I know that doesn't help you but it makes me feel better about his taste in music. I mean he likes all of the good metal but he likes some shitty stuff too.
I asked him what genre of music he would label that and he said maybe metal core or groove metal. He had to explain what those meant to me too and in a nutshell he said they're derogatory terms.
I definitely think it's a guy singing though.
