So much easier on the lungs than those pesky smoke signals. | My best friend is in his 30s, and gets this really far away look in his eyes when he talks about how 4AD used to have a newsletter, and mailed out free promos and band postcards and stuff, and how when he really liked a band, he'd have to go from record store to record store to find what he was looking for, and how the music he listened to was special somehow because he felt like it was HIS in a way, because he wouldn't hear it playing on the stereo system at Starbucks or hear it blasting from peoples' cars.
Those days are over. It sounds magical almost, though, and I wish I could've experienced that. The Internet is both the blessing and the curse of my generation. |

| | | I have that same experience and it is hard to explain to younger people so I avoid it because it makes me sound like a granny "In my day..." I will say that the other thing that was cool about it was that when I went to shows I would see the same faces a lot which let one know they were not alone. So you had a special feeling in that it was "yours" but also were occosionally able to have a shared experience that let you know you weren't alone.
