It's so funny to hear people label him such an innovative genius when he ripped off Skinny Puppy's sound so much that Trent's song Down In It was actually Skinny Puppy's Dig It, ripped off Skinny Puppy's stage presences (mud on the body and face) presentation and even Manson did the same with the bandages around the ribcage and walking on stilts.
While he "incorporated" most of these ripped off sounds on Pretty Hate Machine, he still continued to look like the lead singer of skinny puppy and do his stage acts to the point now that stupid people that see a skinny puppy live video for the first time claim "Reznor rip off" when it's the other way around.
Why can't all of you so called lover of creative people listen to the original instead of the copycat? It would at least make you look less stupid.
Here is a start
(Ahh yes, both are animal rights activists umm right Trent.)
Skinny Puppy is still around making brilliant music as they have a new Cd called Mythmaker. Go to myspace and search for skinny puppy and you tube has plenty of videos and live shows to show you why Reznor would rip off such brilliance.
Never was, their new stuff is way different than the old stuff. If you want to get a better picture of what their newer stuff sounds like, Ohgr's solo album is alot like Skinny Puppy's album. It's catchy but not half assed like Trent's new releases. Trent ran out of ideas to copy. Manson was Trent's karma for being such an asshole.
1989 called, it wants its pointless music arguments back.
OMG are NKOTB going to steal all of Bros' fans?
NO I WILL BE LOYAL TO THE GOSS BROTHERS 4EVA.

actualy [sic] I have quite a blessed life if I'm honest. I have many people to love, hate few and have few money problem's [sic].... What more does a person need? Oh yeah and I have some kind of humbleness unlike you of course ^_^ ~ CarefulCarpenter
actually Trent is a rip off of Ministry, dont ya know?
ooo, and Bowie's album LOW was the downward spiral influence too, cant you tell? Its all ripped off but I still like it so who cares?
I think Trent also spent some quality time with Colin Newman's A-Z. Just listen to the beginning of Colin Newman's "Alone," then the start of "Closer."

Actually Trent's song Down In It is a direct rip off of Skinny Puppy's Dig It.
I must give props to Trent though because if it weren't for him, industrial music wouldn't be as popular as it is in the U.S and he has good taste in women.
I must confess he's grown on me alot over the years. I would just like to see more Skinny Puppy fans.
here is Dig It
dig it and down in it do not sound alike, i don't get the comparism.
in the mid 80's ministry were more of a dance band, have a listen to with sympathy or twitch. it wasn't until 1988 with the land of rape and honey when they turned off the keyboards and turned up the guitars.

yes i've heard the dancy Ministry. Actually Trent even admitted down in it is a rip off of Dig it. Even the video for down in it is alot like dig it.
Trent was also influenced by Twitch so you are right about that but stage shows are very skinny puppy influenced and down in it has skinny puppy samples. The singer of Skinny Puppy and Trent also look very similar, both are hot.
Prices for cd's are ridiculous. I guess he had a change of heart regarding his hatred for downloaded music once he realized how much cd's cost now. It's okay because you make most of your money touring but that doesn't help musicians who are trying to get a record deal now and perhaps that is why we are seeing less and less record labels taking risks with new music and keep spinning off the last best seller.
