its not really about 'playing' the big bad ****ed up rockstar routine, he has a drug addiction and its not like hes asking to be arrested. Libertines were popular when hardly anyone in the mainstream knew about them.

whether he has an addiction isn't the point, he exploits it to get into the headlines because he knows he wouldn't do it based on his current musical ability. hence all the theatrics with syringes and stuff, he thrives on noteriety. the libertines were never really that underground, and once carl had enough of him i think pete probably realised he wasn't going anywhere on his own. babyshambles are a poor, poor effort at a band and i dont think anyone would be interested in them if it wasn't for the mystique that pete drums up through his behaviour. he's too lucid and too intelligent to not know exactly what he is doing. i'm not saying he isn't genuinely an addict, just that he uses that

My boyfriend is in a band and they all do drugs except him. I hate that he's exposed to it everytime he practices with them or plays a gig, not to mention whenever they have parties. I don't travel in their circles and I purposefully do not go to their parties because I don't want to be around coke. I hate that he is exposed to it because although he hasn't done it with them and says he doesn't want to, the exposure to it is obviously going to make him more tolerant towards it. Or at least that is how my brain thinks.
