Monotreme Records to release Barzin’s Just More Drugs EP, band covers “Sad and Beautiful World” for Sparklehorse benefit compilation, new Alan Zweig film Lovable to feature band’s “Let’s Go Driving”.
“While songwriter Barzin Hosseini may wear his influences on his sleeve (he recently contributed to a Sparklehorse tribute record, ferchrissakes), he proves himself a master at mood-setting across My Life’s nine tracks, dissecting the insular life of an artist over languid puffs of pedal steel, caverns of reverb and barely touched pianos.” – Paper Thin Walls
“Like fellow slowcore devotees Sparklehorse and Red House Painters, Barzin excavates the despondent territory of loss, regret, loneliness, and claustrophobic isolation. Phrases repeat from song to song musical motifs weave in an out and reappear in surprising places, and the end result is a closely integrated suite of songs that explores the rewards — and the cost — of the artistic life.” – All Music Guide
Monotreme Records, the same people who brought you Barzin’s critically applauded full-length, My Life In Rooms, is scheduled to release the band’s Just More Drugs EP on May 29th. The EP will feature the full-length’s version of the tune along with two radio session tracks recorded during Barzin’s May tour of the UK (“Just More Drugs” and “Let's Go Driving”), a new song “Queen Jane”, plus a cover of a Tindersticks song, “Mistakes”, which was recorded for Canadian radio earlier in the year. The Canadian singer/songwriter plans to embark on a tour of the east and west coast to support Just More Drugs’ release.
The EP was released in Europe last November, coinciding with Barzin’s shows there. This year will also see the long awaited re-release of Barzin's first, self-titled album in Europe, and it will include bonus tracks and the Vincent Moon directed video for “Leaving Time” (VIDEO), as well.
