yet another one of my recommendation threads sinks without a single reply. at least Björk has good taste. it turns out she is touring with Konono because they collaborated on her album 'Volta'. i've got the 'TP Couleur Cafe' groove stuck in my head. which is kinda weird having a rhythm stuck in your head. i'm going to go see them on Friday.

they built their own microphones from magnets taken from car parts and wood, they have electrified ikembé/mbiras(thumb pianos), and other junk percussion.

I saw them on Clip Trip a few days back and it made my day go smoothly.

The instrumentation and beats are great, I'll definitely check them out more closely.

well, thankyou for the reply poster. even tho i don't know what "Clip Trip" is. i think they won 1st place in the UK world music category in 2006 so they are relatively well known compared to most African music acts.

these rhythms have all of rock music beat. all jungle, drum-'n'-bass. i like my beats real. and i like the fact that all their percussion is essentially made from trash.

Clip Trip is a program on the canadian music channel MuchMoreMusic, it's basically a showcase for international music. The majority of mornings it blows but yesterday it was quite good (Konono, M.I.A., Bonto Do Role (?))
