Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation Gets Double Disc Reissue

1988- the year Sonic Youth knocked the music world on its ass. Daydream Nation was epic, noisy, and catchy, while including soon to be alterna-classics like "Teenage Riot" and "Total Trash." The landmark album is now going to be given the royal reissue treatment as it approaches its 20 year anniversary.

While Disc One features the original studio album and a demo of "Eric's Trip", the second disc is where the real magic happens. Compiling recordings from shows at CBGB's and Amsterdam's Paradiso, the folks at Geffen have put together Live Daydream, the album's live track for track counterpart. The CD will also feature four rare covers: "Within You Without You" by The Beatles, "Touch Me I'm Sick" By Mudhoney, "Computer Age" By Neil Young, and "Electricity" by Captain Beefheart.

Of course, Thurston, Kim, Steve, and Lee are not simply sitting around reminiscing about the good ole days. Catch them performing Daydream Nation, in its entirety, live. If you don't see your city on the list, hold tight, there are more on the way.

Since that last thread I made about the music funk, my itunes kept playing Daydream Nation randomly...and it was the only music that arose any kind of feeling...good feelings in this case. I'm inspired to buy this reissue. There's also a huge possibility, almost certain, that I will be in L.A. in July...so yay.

The fresh heartbreak was, in a sense, like being in a foreign country; everything seemed alien, brilliant and glinting. It was as if I’d been flayed, so that even the air hurt. When you’re that unhappy, any glimmer of beauty or consolation feels like running into an old friend abroad, or seeing mountaintops through smog. Maybe we mistakenly think we want “happiness,” which we tend to picture in very vague, soft-focus terms, when what we really crave is the harder-edged intensity of experience.

Is it out already? I can't find a release date or anything..

I've only heard two Sonic Youth albums ever, Daydream Nation and EVOL.

Daydream Nation bored me to death, but EVOL had some really interesting songs.

Which of their other albums are like that one?

Nothing comes close to the greatness of EVOL.....
