Las Vegas rockers sell out massive arena

The Killers played a sold-out show at the massive Los Angeles Staples Center last night (April 9).

Kicking things off with an elaborate light show and an explosion of confetti, the Las Vegas quartet started off their set with the three opening tracks from their latest album, 'Sam's Town'.

Frontman Brandon Flowers looked dapper in a dark suit, and kept between-song banter to a minimum.

"LA! LA! LA!" he shouted to the 20,000-strong crowd before launching into the band's hit single 'When You Were Young'.

A large sign reading 'Sam's Town' hung over the top of the stage, and beneath it another sign said 'Welcome'.

Despite the band's minimal crowd interaction, the audience ate it up, pumping their fists into the air and singing at the top of their lungs to hits including 'Mr Brightside' and 'Bones'.

The band said their first goodnight after the hour-and-a-half set, but quickly gave in to the crowd's hollers for more.

The Killers' first encore included 'For Reasons Unknown' with Flowers wailing on keyboards, and the uplifting crowd-pleaser 'All These Things That I've Done'.

But they didn't end there. The band soon returned for a second encore to perform 'Exiltude' -- the farewell song from 'Sam's Town' -- and a rousing repeat of 'When You Were Young' to a sea of mobile phones that lit up the arena.

I have nothing against The Killers. I like them. But this whole arena thing makes me a little sick. And can we talk about how awful the album cover is for Sam's Town?

The fresh heartbreak was, in a sense, like being in a foreign country; everything seemed alien, brilliant and glinting. It was as if I’d been flayed, so that even the air hurt. When you’re that unhappy, any glimmer of beauty or consolation feels like running into an old friend abroad, or seeing mountaintops through smog. Maybe we mistakenly think we want “happiness,” which we tend to picture in very vague, soft-focus terms, when what we really crave is the harder-edged intensity of experience.

i'm really looking forward to seeing them in a few weeks. i love sams town, the cover art is rank though.

this is nearly close to a perfect song. I thought they were a band-wagon-band when I first heard them but they are a totally different dimension than I thought. 'Read my Mind' is unobtrusively clever, the structure, the 'chorus' and the 'verse' blend into each other making the song sort of structureless. and its not an efforted thing, you know, defying standard song structure just for the sake of it, its just delivered that way, perfectly organic and streaming.

as im analyzing this I feel like im wronging some the beautiful mystery of the song, but i just feel compelled. FIRST SONG CRITIQUE IN YEARS!

on another 'note', bjorks NEW song ‘We are the Earth Intruders’ is brilliant, I must admit. This bitch polarizes my tastes but this song makes me believe shes a Philosopher.
