| | | Live Earth concerts - UK and US line-ups From NME.com: UK Foo Fighters and Madonna for climate change concert
Acts for London leg of Live Earth revealed
Foo Fighters, Madonna and Genesis are among the groups set to play the UK leg of this summer's Live Earth concerts.
They will be joined by Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Duran Duran and Razorlight at the show on July 7.
The gig, which will take place at Wembley Stadium, also features James Blunt, David Gray, Damien Rice, Black Eyed Peas, Bloc Party, Corinne Bailey Rae, Keane and Paolo Nutini, with more names to be announced.
The London show is one of several taking place across the globe on July 7, which are being organised by former US Vice President Al Gore to highlight climate change issues.
Tickets for the gig - which will cost £55 - will be allocated by ballot, which fans can register for from 12pm (BST) on Friday (April 13) for 72 hours. After that time go to Livenation.co.uk/liveearth.
Concerts will also take place in Johannesburg, Rio de Janeiro, Shanghai, Sydney, Tokyo and possibly New York, with profits going to organisations including the Alliance For Climate Protection, the Climate Group and Stop Climate Chaos.

Kanye West, Fall Out Boy and Bon Jovi will also perform
The line-up has been unveiled for the US leg of Al Gore's Live Earth concerts, which has been confirmed to take place at Giants Stadium in New Jersey.
The Police, Smashing Pumpkins, Bon Jovi and Kanye West will perform, as will AFI, Sheryl Crow, Fall Out Boy and John Mayer.
Concerts will take place across seven continents throughout July 7 and will culminate with the New Jersey show.
"We hope the energy created by Live Earth will jump start a massive public education effort," Live Earth co-chair vice president Al Gore said. "Live Earth will help us reach a tipping point that's needed to move corporations and governments to take decisive action to solve the climate crisis."
Tickets for the show go on sale Monday, April 16 at 10am. |

| | | How exactly? Will they donate money to green energy? To lobby for regulations on greenhouse gas emissions?

Maybe we mistakenly think we want “happiness,” which we tend to picture in very vague, soft-focus terms, when what we really crave is the harder-edged intensity of experience. |

This is not to say, of course, that live music shouldn't happen, but I'd rather not fool myself thinking that concerts like these will make any difference. The difference will come when the money is put towards tangible actions.

Which is why I'm donating half my yearly wage to scientists conducting research into the plausability of building a gigantic dyson vacuum cleaner that would suck all the greenhouse gases into it's big, bagless plastic thing and then be shot off into space.
