peter buck is nice

if you watch old REM interviews when peter did all the talking, you'll notice he's the coolest guy who ever lived.

he never says anything mean or retarded and always comes across as a good guy to know.

mike is also really cool. bill doesn't talk that much, but he's wickedly funny when he does.

and i could be wrong, but i have nightmares of sitting in class thinking "don't call on me, don't call on me, please don't call on me" and that's the impression i get from michael in these interviews. which makes me like him too.

OMG but you sure hear what Michael Stipe said about El Duce. I read it on wikipedia.

To be honest, I have only a slight inclination to believe Buck's side of the story about his airline incident.

peter buck is one of the smartest men in rock still to this day, though he's a little more acerbic than he used to be. he's the brainy big brother of r.e.m.

i don't think mike mills has ever lied about anything, he seems incapabale of being disingenuous. he also has very good manners but seems like he'd be a lot of fun to have a drink with. he's the integrity of r.e.m.

and michael stipe has evolved in a fascinating way in terms of the way he presents himself, though interviews from a long time ago sometimes make me want to strangle him since he even spoke in a completely different voice than he does now. i prefer the directness he has now, he's a very confident subject most of the time, but you can very much see that he still is, as he once described himself. "the soft heart, theimmediate woman in the band".

i just got the Reveal DVD-A/CD package and it has a great 20 minute documentary and they talk about a lot of those songs. This Way Up is a great documentary of the making of that record and what they went through, and of course for older r.e.m., the recently released When The Light Is Mine is amazing.
