Chad Channing is back in the spotlight, this time with a new project, Before Cars. Channing was Nirvana’s original drummer who played on their first LP, Bleach, before subsequently falling out of favor with Cobain, or bolting—depending on who's to be believed. Before Cars is really nothing in the neighborhood of grunge, but more of a "mellow, happy, sometimes folky blend of indie pop-rock" according to a press-release, and sounds eerily like Elliott Smith. Flotation Records has issued 500 copies of the band’s first single, "Old Chair," which is currently available on Before Cars' MySpace page, and Channing will enter the studio sometime in the near future to put together a proper LP.

I hope his music's more inspiring than his drumming. Perhaps it's just coincidence that the only tracks I really liked off Bleach were the ones that Dale Crover played drums on...

I used to work w/ Chad Channing's father and he is the sweetest guy! He would tell me Nirvana stories of the good ol' days of "grunge" or about how he just bought the recent "Neil Young" CD.

i know this is trivial but why is his hair SO long?!

anyway, i'm not a big fan of the music but i'm glad he's doing something new. he didn't have much say on bleach, as far as i've heard, but he seemed to get screwed by that whole thing so yeah. good on him.
