Arcade Fire Reach #2 On Billboard 200

In what may become a trend in 2007, a hotly anticipated indie release has taken the #2 slot in the Billboard 200. The Arcade Fire’s new album Neon Bible, released on independent label Merge, sold more than 92,000 copies to become one of the biggest selling indie releases of the year so far. The band previous album, the much-lauded Funeral, debuted at #131.

While the album trounced contenders like Reliant K, and American Idol’s Chris Daughtry, it was not enough to reach the top spot, held off deceased rapper Notorious BIG’s Greatest Hits.

Meanwhile in the UK, Neon Bible also took the #2 slot in the album charts, held off by the Kaiser Chief’s sophomore release Yours Truly, Angry Mob.

I remember the first few months they weren't famous. Radio stations here in Canada would play one their songs every hour and go crazy for them when they were talking. "A good Canadian band! Holy Hell!" (Not that they're the only ones.)

Good on them! If any bands should be at the top Arcade Fire is one of them.

yeah, that first single rebellion got played SO much here. glad they're doing well.. actually, glad so many canadian bands are getting big. finally our music scene isn't just looked at as barenaked ladies and celine dion.
