Carl Barat to be Pete Doherty's best man?

Carl Barat has been asked to be his old Libertines bandmate Pete Doherty's best man.

The two caught up at last week's (March 1) Shockwaves NME Awards and according to Barat, Doherty has invited him to attend his much rumoured wedding to model Kate Moss.

Barat told The Mirror: "We had a heart-to-heart the other day and at the end of the conversation Pete asked me if I'd be up for being his best man. At first I thought he was joking. But he told me him and Kate were desperate to marry and his offer was deadly serious.

"I was shocked but delighted. I'm really touched that after all we've been through together we could finally put it all behind us and move on."

Barat added that he was now planning what to do at the ceremony.

"I'm going to do a speech and Pete suggested I do a reading, something like Chekhov," he explained.

A date for the wedding has not been announced.
