New album is ready
I have some very exciting news to share with you.... my next album, Fingers & Thumbs, is now ready for you. It will be released in the UK on One Little Indian Records in May 2007. I have seen a copy and held it in my hot little hands. Lovely feeling!
Some album facts
It has ten songs on it
It lasts for 48 minutes and 52 seconds
It was recorded and mixed across a 5-week period at Parr Street Studios in Liverpool last spring/summer
There are virtually no acoustic guitars on it; Molly and Pearl took a back seat this time, while Billy (Fender Telecaster Custom) and Eliza (Epiphone Casino) took centre stage
There is one piano number this time, called 'Matilda'
It was mastered in January this year at Abbey Road
I worked with producer Ken Nelson, drummer Rastko Rasic and bass-player Alex Maranca
You'll be able to get it via download, on CD or on vinyl
We are also reissuing 'Scissors...' on vinyl
Calling all Manchester fans
I'm coming up to Manchester this Sunday for my first radio session to Blueprint Studios to prerecord an acoustic performance as part of Channel 4 Radio's music show The Tube (are you old enough to remember the original TV show? I am, unfortunately...). It will be broadcast in March.
If you would like to be in the audience on Sunday evening between 6pm and 8pm ish, send an email to <a href=mailto:"email@example.com">tubeti firstname.lastname@example.org - the first ten fans to reply will each win a pair of places on the guest list.
The first single
The first single from the album will be The Woods, to be released in the UK on 26 March 2007. You will be able to buy it via download or on limited edition 7" vinyl - only 500 copies of the vinyl are being pressed so you'll have to be fast.
If you didn't already know, downloads have recently been in the news because they are now being counted in the charts and radio stations like never before. It's a brand new way that fans have been empowered to boost their favourite artists up onto the radio stations and up the charts, from where so many good artists (in fact, most of my favourite ones) are usually excluded.
The first tour
I will be touring the UK to mark the single release with Rastko and Alex, hopefully the first of many loops around the country over the coming months. We can't wait! We've been rehearsing since January in a railway arch under a mainline station in south London, making lots of noise with electric guitars. Here are the dates so far...
