It's more of an extension on the Good News...album. More of that tom waits infused, yelping, barking vocals from Issac. The guitar parts are pretty meh. I don't even hear the Johnny Marr influence on the tunes. There are a few redeeming tracks. But overall, fuck, not great. There is no melodic pop great tunes like Float On or Ocean Breathes Salty either.
The band is officially....not within the indie rock sound anymore. And I hate to use something cliche like "indie rock sound" but they just do not sound much like the same band anymore.
Fuck you Issac Brock.
I'm writing a review for a friends online magazine, so I'll write a proper formal review later. |
Uh-oh.
I was happy until I got past the Tom Waits bit, where it all took a turn for the worse. But then, I might quite like this? I got worried by a
KR poster's review of Regina Spektor's album and then when I listened to it, rather apprehensively, I loved it. Maybe you'll get used to it? It could be that thing where you automatically want to hate a band's new stuff without being able to help it... I don't think Float On is that great a song either, but I'll have to try and reserve my judgement of the new stuff, not go into listening to it with prejudices...
Cyclona, go on
