I just got the Live NBC Broadcasts album from the Savoy and Roseland Ballrooms in NY. it's sooooo great.

I like Ella and the songbooks.
I am really a fan of Billie Holiday.
There is a relatively recent (in jazz terms) female jazz vocalist named Cassandra Wilson who I enjoy quite a bit.
Sarah Vaughan is great too.
And Nina Simone isn't really jazz - well she varies, but good stuff.
