V2 ( White Stripes label) going digital....

My friend was fired from v2 along with everyone else. All FMR employees fired etc. I think it is being run by abnother company actually and all have been fired from the v2 branch. Bands being released from contracts. New releases ( other than Gospel) going digital only. Has this been discussed? Sorry if so - I did a brief search and have been gone a long time.

I miss vinyl and now they are doing away with cds. I guess it is space saving, but I don't like it. I am excited at the prospect of bands being able to do their own hand made cds and sell them for full profit though. Thoughts?

Depressing time for the record industry, in my opinion. Shame the music industry is doing so well with the downloads. A download will never come close to holding a record/cd in your hands.. It's so saddening, right now. I've been thinking a lot about putting out 7"s myself, if only to have something personal to hang on to when the whole world goes computer crazy.

the mp3 fucks up everything, the entire 20th century they have been trying to improve the sound/quality of music (tubes/accoustics/studio's etc) and now they compress it in an mp3.

I thought vinyls were making a big retro comeback. Every big name has a vinyl release these days. I don't see the sole digital thing succeeding just yet. Music biz has always been about providing different options.

Yeah I agree. I hate how everything is becoming digitalized, it's all so bland. I had to buy a new walkman last month because my old one crapped out, and I couldn't believe how little selection there was! It was so depressing, I hate to think that in a few years cd players will be impossible to find, like turn tables. And I will never ever understand why people shell out 200 bucks or whatever for an iPod, they're such a joke. I love cds.
