| Melvins Live - Incredible! Has anyone else here been lucky enough to catch the Melvins live lately? I saw them on thursday night, and god damn, that was one incredible show! It was just some of the utmost intense musical performance I've ever witnessed.
I was really looking forward to seeing Dale Crover, a bit of a hero of mine, but with Coady Willis also drumming at the same time, I was totally blown away. The two drummer thing worked incredibly well live, both drummers were incredibly tight. The drum kits were both massive as well, I'm pretty sure Dale's rack tom was just a floor tom stuck up on the rack. To be honest though, Coady Willis actually outshone Dale Crover on the drumming front - but I guess I'd put that down to Crover getting a bit old and portly these days.
Buzzo never fails to impress me, his presence on the stage was just massive, and with he and bassist Jared Warren both dressed in full length black robes, it felt like you were about to witness some satanic rock and roll sacrifice on stage!
Support bands were pretty cool as well. I think Dale played in every single one of them at some point or other. He came on dressed in a strange elvis costume with Men Of Porn. Next on were Flipper, featuring none other than a Mr. Krist Novoselic on bass. Flipper were joined by Dale, Buzzo and Coady from the Melvins at the end of their set for a big mega apocalyptic mega noise jam thing. Big Business were pretty damn amazing, I was really impressed with Jared Warren's bass sound, despite him only using Squier basses... respect!
Seriously, if you get the chance to see the Melvins... GO! That gig in glasgow was I think the first time they've played in Scotland since 1996 or something ridiculous, so I'm glad I caught them, as I doubt I'll get the chance again. |
