| | | Black People (RAP) = innovative; White People (rock) = lazy Here's the fact:
When it comes to music, black men are ****ing competitive. They aren't content to just be "really" good. For them, it's a matter of pride. When they are making their beats and rhymes, it's not some masturbatory let's-give-the-fans-what-they-expect fun passtime: they are ****ing making beats with the goal of one-upping the other people making beats around them. They ****ing trade tapes all the time, they are ****ing competitive between cities.
I wouldn't say rock and roll is LAZY... I would just say that once people know they are commercial, they sort of sit on their *** and do as expected, and not any more, when it comes to making albums.
Rock musicians make music that has become "more personal" on second albums. Black rappers make music that is designed to make the other people around them sound like ****. They want to get the deepest, weirdest bass sound ever. Rock musicians want to get more in touch with the feelings they've recently put into their blogs.
There are some exceptions. Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, PJ Harvey -- they ****ing try to do some crazy ****. But most rock bands.... they just suck.
Why are black people so cometitive when it comes to music and white people are so damn lazy? |

| | | all I know is that most rap, or rap as a whole is about gangs, rape, ****phobia, drugs, violence, prostitution, vice, women as sex objects, machism and general ****.
Just for that only, Rock owns rap any day. Long live rock and roll. |

| | | Here's the basics: Rock music has MULTIPLE levels. There are sooo many kinds. So once you know you've been established as a GOOD rock band in your genre, then you just keep at it. Rap music on the other hand is the same blase stuff every damn album. They are competing in a world that doesn't expand. Hell, you mentioned rock bands talking about feelings and that is crappy, but you didn't mention what rappers are talking about. And that's cause no one cares. |

On the other hand I can totally spot the difference between Sinead O'Connor and let's say PJ Harvey. or Courtney Love.
And don't get me going on the highly NEGATIVE values of rap. I don't care the reason, the fact is that it's negative music. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
