| | | Favorite music moments What are your favorite moments in particular songs? Is it a chorus you love? A solo? Some weird random sound?
For myself...
Lateralus - TOOL - The last part of this song is amazing, the build-up and then to release into that groove with these lyrics...
With my feet upon the ground I lose myself
between the sounds and open wide to suck it in,
I feel it move across my skin.
I'm reaching up and reaching out,
I'm reaching for the random or what ever will bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.
Spiral out. Keep going, going...
The Outlaw Torn - Metallica - A lot of people hate this album, but I like it quite a bit, and I find the solo in this song amazing. It starts out low key, very slow, and then just rips into a wall of sound. I can't explain it any better than that, I love it. |

| | | hole - petals - the end when the song is dying down and this melancholic thing just happens, what are those anyway? what instruments? synth? pro tools strings? ah whatever, that part makes me woozy, it's just so sad.
the dresden dolls - half jack - amanda has a weird, deep voice that's most effective when she's whispering (like in "slide") or when she's frantic like near the end of this song when she lets out the vocal equivalent of the character's gender crisis. Uh-oh, uh-oh, uh-oh.
It might destroy me
But I'd sacrifice my body
If it meant I'd get the Jack part out
See (see) jack run (run)
my bloody valentine - sometimes - it's very difficult to trace the emotions in their songs, maybe because the sonic rubble is so jagged you're forced to a dreamlike trance but near the end of this masterpiece of a song, there are faint sounds of strings accompanying the synths and the massive guitar squall and when you hear it, it just brings the whole thing from being merely celestial to very human.
throwing muses - vicky's box - the whole song itself is a fine example of the lunatic giant that the muses was, all shifting tempos and rallying vocals but the bassline at the start of this song is so perfect and so catchy, it tricks you into thinking it's some dance number but man, it is so not.
slowdive - sing - more accessible than mbv and most of their peers, slowdive always balanced a sense for chaos and one for serenity. this one is the perfect song to exhibit that. i've listened to this so many times but i always forget when it happens, when the song becomes really spacey but somewhere in this, rachel goswell's ethereal vocals become something else, some kind of studio wizardry when they turn every sigh into a sonic effect. very beautiful.
the organ - there is nothing i can do - it's such a short song that i treasure every second but the start is to die for. first, we hear footsteps and a drumbeat then a door closing, then the drumbeat takes center stage, then an overdriven bassline, then the hammond organ, then katie sketch's voice singing about cutting, then the very smiths guitar. |

| | | Oh man, I had a funny real-life experience with this recently. I was trying to explain my favorite thing in a song ever, I was just getting little blank stares and comments like, "oh yeah, that was pretty cool." I got so sad!! But maybe someone here will get it.
Symptom of the Universe, by Black Sabbath? The whole part towards the end there, when they go from rocking the fuck out.. to that slow transition into the little folky part at the end?? Oh man, and Ozzy's vocals towards the end of that are Pristine. Fuck, you guys aren't gonna get it either, are you?
"oh yeah, that was pretty cool."
i fucking love it so much, makes life more worth living. |

| | | Morrissey fading out in "Suedehead" - "it was a good lay, good lay..." he later tried to say he was actually singing "it was a bootleg", but nobody believed him.

He stole all hearts away ay hey ay hey ay hey ay ay | Really? My favourite part of You Are The Quarry was the wee guitar flourish bit after "...and reject this royal line" sometime late in the song. Thus not even something by Moz. I think that makes me bad.
