The 1967 album The Doors struck awe in fans and critics alike, and
heralded the arrival of one of the most original and daring bands ever.
Through five more studio releases, The Doors were fronted by the
legendary Jim Morrison, and continually pushed the boundaries of
contemporary music and popular culture. To mark the band's 40th
anniversary, Rhino salutes their legacy with a 12-disc box housing
remastered & expanded CD/DVD editions of these six album masterpieces.
Perception was produced in cooperation with surviving band members John
Densmore (drums), Robby Krieger (guitar), and Ray Manzarek (keyboards),
with The Doors' longtime engineer Bruce Botnick back behind the boards.
Each of the six albums is presented with bonus audio - much of it
previously unreleased - on a remastered CD along with an additional DVD
including a 5.1 DTS encoded Surround Sound mix of the album and
additional tracks as well as a photo gallery, lyrics, discography, and
two videos of songs from that release. These landmark albums are housed
in an elaborate package worthy of the Rock and Roll Hall Of Famers,
featuring a cover designed as a door with a peephole and rotating wheel
displaying images of the band.
Though the trip from "Light My Fire" to "L.A. Woman" lasted less than
five years, The Doors' music still looms large in pop consciousness,
chiefly due to its fearless desire to explore unknown terrain. Given
that, the band's embrace of new technology is a natural, and in addition
to the new boxed set, we've got plenty of ringtones and wallpapers to
fill out your Doors digital shopping list. Break on through to
