The last time I saw him live was back home in VA and man...! Dunno what he was on but his brain was definitely burnt....yeah, more visibly than usual. I mean we all know that the man has spent the last millenium reeling around in the orbit of an entirely different planet most of the time, but onstage that night he was really, really bad-unto-unwatchable.
At least for the performance I saw, I'd have to rate it cringeworthy. Much of the audience seemed to feel likewise, altho of course there was a contingent of folk who would have screamed approval if the man had turned around and announced that he would now play "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" by farting on the piano.
It was so bad that I can't actually recall if the performance was in Maryland, VA, or if we went to NC to see it. We were even drunk/semi-stoned & such, and it was still, well...kinda sad.
Maybe he's gotten a little more coherent since then. I do have some of his records which I like, but ya gotta be in a particular mood imo.
Should be interesting to see how these performances turn out, huh?
