Barzin Releases New EP Featuring New Songs and Tindersticks Cover, Shoots “Leaving Time” Video with Parisian Filmmaker Vincent Moon. My Life in Rooms Receives Canadian and UK Approval.
“Following the path created by Galaxie 500, Codeine or Low but with a more varied instrumentation and a sound a bit more folk or alt/country ( not unlike Mojave 3, Tindersticks or Early Day Miners ), this is quiet and minimalist, dark but heartwarming music that should be cherished by many.” - Drowned in Sound (UK)
“Barzin Hosseini's second album is like some surreal version of MTV Cribs: a slow-motion waltz through the warm and safe rooms of the Toronto singer's home. In the place of stripper poles and Silver Spoons-style indoor railroad systems, we get books, pictures, postcards and other distractions from the cold world swaying outside the window. With the wonderful help of Suzanne Hancock and The Great Lake Swimmers' Tony Dekker, Barzin colours his quiet confessions with peaceful, reverberated vocals, strings, pedal steel, vibraphone and French horn, creating a truly lush and lovely accompaniment to sleepy days and sleepless nights.” - Eye Weekly (Canada)
Barzin kicked off its three week European tour with a show in Bruges, Belgium, in support of Danish band Under Byen. The next day the band recorded four tracks and interviewed with the Belgian national radio show Duyster. Barzin’s Paris stop on the tour included a performance at a house party, as part of the Home *sweet* Home project, which brings concerts to flats and houses in France, which was where French director Vincent Moon (
www.vincentmoon.com) also unveiled his video for the single “Leaving Time” to the band. Moon says it was an honor to have Barzin be the first to participate in Home*sweet*Home, and of the concept of the video, Moon says, “You'll see it's a very special video. I just tried to not focus on rhythm, not trying at all to be in that MTV generation of videos, doing something against that speed, having something slow, different, and sensual.” Moon is known for his riveting photography and directing videos for other bands such as the National, and the Take Away Shows project (

Kim Harrison-Lavoie of Barzin’s label Monotreme Records, the people that also brought you 65daysofstatic, also has more exciting news about Barzin, “To coincide with the tour, a five-track EP is being released in mainland Europe. The tracks on the Just More Drugs EP include the album version of ‘Just More Drugs' from My Life In Rooms, plus two radio session tracks recorded during Barzin’s May tour of the UK, (‘Just More Drugs’ and 'Let's Go Driving') plus a new song 'Queen Jane' and a lovely cover of a Tindersticks song, 'Mistakes', recorded for Canadian radio earlier in the year.” Kim also revealed that Barzin's first, self-titled album will have a long-awaited re-release in Europe next year, and it will include bonus tracks and possibly the “Leaving Time” video as well.
Just before leaving for tour, Barzin made time to record the track “Sad & Beautiful World” for the Sparklehorse tribute album to be released on Slight Records next year.
