the new album doesnt sound very jehovah witnessy. did he leave the religion? talking about sex the way he does now doesnt seem to be something the church would approve of. if you want the crazy JW music, get "the rainbow children." |
Yeah, "The Rainbow Children" is directly from his bible studies at the time (with Larry Graham).
This new album isn't as preachy as that one, no, but he is still a card-carrying JW (though the extent of his following is under question these days for several reasons - discussion of sex notwithstanding).
Also keep in mind that he really isn't talking too much about sex. "Black Sweat" isn't about sex, it's about dancing so hard you sweat. And in "Incense and Candles" he warns the person to not take their clothes off. The only time he mentions sex, if I recall correctly, is in "The Dance" towards the end.
Strangely enough, though, in "The Word" he mentions about getting "saved" but it is not a JW belief that people are "saved". That is a traditional Christian belief! Who knows where he stands on it these days. He had also banned drinking alcohol at his shows for a long time, but notice how in "3121" he instructs the listener to drink champagne from a glass with chocolate handles. Weird!
