| | | I remember when Napster came out I was in the sixth grade. That's when i first heard about "burning cds" and all that stuff. I have a hard time believing it was new at one point.
does anyone else remember this???? i think it was a huge huge huge milestone. Because, think about it, if it weren't for Napster back in the day, would we have the weekly music sharing threads?
i just had to take a minute to do this. |

| | | i remember that. i didn't know what it was until i went over my cousins house and he had it. he would ask people at his school for a playlist and they would pay him to make their cd. i always wondered why they didn't just do it themselves |

i think at one point you had to have a special kind of cd drive or something. and you also had to have the software too, i think. |

| | | I had it on my first ever laptop. It had Windows 95 on it and took like 30 minutes to establish a dial-up connection. Good times, good times!

| | | yes yes me remembers napster.its so sad they shut it down i never cared for any of the other p2ps.yeah back in the day not everyones computer had a cdr drive so either you had to buy one and try and install it yourself or hire someone to or buy a new pc or an external cd r drive now just about every computer comes with atleast cdr if not cdr/dvd and cdr/dvdr/w i think the only computers that dont nowadays are some of the basic dell models.
the thing is i dont use p2ps anymore-havent in years-i rarely download anything on the web at all-ok i downloaded like one cd in the mp3 thread and just itunes on occasion.i think ive only ever burnt like 30 cds in my life including hole bootlegs, elliott bootlegs, and nirvana bootlegs, and liz phairs girlysound.
its such a hassle and im lazy id rather just buy the cd at the store but i do strongly support downloading for like kids and people who dont currently have the cash to buy the music and for artist discovery. |

I remeber sitting at my best frineds house and downloading a lot of songs then going out side to do whatever and come back in like 3 hours later and there still downloading haha. That was also back when TRL was the shit. When " The Real Slim Shady" , "Oops! ... I did it again" and " Thong Song" were all compeating for the number one song. Oh how I miss those days.... |
