Madonna 'adopts baby boy'

Singer to make statement in next 48 hours

Madonna has adopted a one-year-old boy in Malawi, according to the child's father.

Yohane Banda confirmed to reporters that the singer had chosen to adopt his child David a week after her publicist Liz Rosenberg denied the claims.

He added: "I am the father of David, who has been adopted. I am very very happy because as you can see there is poverty in this village and I know he will be very well looked after in America."

Following his comments, a spokeswoman for Madonna has now confirmed that an official statement will be made in the next 48 hours, reports BBC NEWS.

As previously reported on NME.COM, Madonna had travelled to the area to help fight poverty against AIDS in Africa by setting up a $3 million (£1.6 million) initiative called Raising Malawi, to help orphans in the country.

The orphan centre will be based in Mphandula, and aims to feed and educate 1,000 children a day.

Madonna is also planning to give all the proceeds from her next children's book, 'The English Roses: Too Good To Be True', due out on October 23, to the Raising Malawi project.

I sort of agree. Madonna stopped doing a lot of cool things after her kids but we did get some good records.

what is it with Madonna fans being all up in arms with the notion that Madonna may have regrets? she is a human being and she has implied it lots of times, SPECIALLY when talking about Sex. She does regret it on some level, deal with it.

ok, im done trying with you. you just got Like A Prayer, you obviously havent been into her so strongly for an extended period of time. ive been following Madonna over half my life. this by no means makes me an authority on her, and in the same turn i NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER (have i got my point across?) claim to be either. but in following her this many years, hearing her speak and reading interviews, i think its pretty obvious the woman knows why she is where she is and to regret something is to wish it didnt happen. everything that she has chosen up to this point has brought her to where she is. has she thought "maybe i could have done it differently?" yes, of course.... but she by no means "regrets" any of her decisions.

First off, I don't believe her "I have no regrets" shit anymore than I believe she's deeply committed to the world peace nonsense she's spouting these days. Or the "I used to be really into fame and money, but now I'm not" routine she sings about at least twice an album.

Second, if she was so proud of that Sex book, how come the paperback plans were scrapped?
Apparently she was close to having a nervous breakdown in the aftermath of the whole Sex/Body of Evidence phase. It nearly ruined her career. Retrospect is 20/20 and we know she recovered nicely. But at the time it must have been pretty scary for her.
I'm not going to look for sources, but I seem to remember her expressing some regret in an article and crying during a TV interview.
If nothing else, she has expressed regret that she released the book and film at the same time as her Erotica album, which was sort of overlooked in all the fuss that ensued.

I'm sure she regrets it. Maybe her gratefulness for Evita/motherhood/Ray of Light just outweights the regret.

As much as I adore her body of work, I can't help but think this project is another publicity stunt, and instead of carrying a Pomeranian around in a handbag (so 1990's), Madonna has gone down the Brad and Angelina route and will be soon spotted in LA and London sporting little David on her back as her new fashion accessory (as also seen in yesterday's press). I like to call it the 'Starvin Marvin fad'. Will she still be heading the Raising Malawi project in 2010? Doubtful.
