Introducing cats to each other

ok, here's the deal. I've had my Belgian cat for 5 years; I just moved back here and brought my american 10month old cat home with me.
the older cat used to have a sister, but she ran away, she's been alone sice, but she's outside a lot and is quite a independent cat. she likes to be pet but she won't sit on your lap.
The American young cat was rescued by a shelter after she was abandoned. we bought her and she lived in our apartment, so indoors except for going onto the balcony. Here she's now in a normal sized house with a backyard (cats in Belgium are outside a lot. we don't have dangerous animals and especially in my street everyone lets their cats outside because there's like no traffic at all). she is still a little scared to go outside of my room. i took her into the backyard with a leash, but she's always trying to hide. she's only been here for a few days so i'm trying to just let her rest (which she does a lot...you think she's jetlagged?) and not push her too much to do things. i don't think she's eating a lot though. should i be worried? maybe she's just still a little shocked and tired because of the weird long trip here (20 hours on an airplane, 2 times take-off and landing).

any way. any tips are welcome especially on how I ca make it work between my cats because the oldest one is used to other cats (in our street) but she's not always nice to them, and the yougest is not used to other cats at all and is a very attached cat. she always comes to sit on your lap and sleeps with you in the bed etc.... maybe because she was abandoned as a baby.

any way. i'd love to have them become like sisters and have them sleep and play together

let them sort it out themselves. either they will be pals or they will probably ignore each other.

when i moved in with my roomies we had to introduce the cats, mine was fine, just curious. his one was nasty and hissed and spit, she still does to this day after almost a year. the other is such a suck and follows mine around. they always hang out together and clean each other.

let your new cat get used to her surroundings and let's hope she will come out of her shell in a few weeks.

Cats are very good at adjusting and getting used to things. Just give it a little more time and I'm sure they'll be fine.

you should never just bring a cat home and give him/her free reign with your other cats there. The cat should be put into a separate room for atleast a week. That way the cat and your other cats will have adjusted to the idea of another cat being there. THEN you should slowly try to introduce them. Dont rush anything.
